I enjoy meeting other entrepreneurs. All of our stories are similar. In fact, my story probably sounds a lot like yours. I started my first business when I was nine, selling Cheerful House greeting cards door to door.  I've had my own business almost exclusively since then.

Sure, I've held down two "real" jobs in my life, but both times I

felt like a mouse on a wheel and eventually left to start another business.  When I was nine I noticed that I spent a lot more time filling out order forms, collecting money and delivering cards then I did figuring out how to make more money.

That hasn't changed in the thirty years since then.  I still get that mouse-on-a-wheel feeling as the paperwork stacks up while the decisions, concerns, issues and all the other little things eat into all of the time I had to actually get something done.

I've toyed with the idea of a company like The Dean Group for a long time.  Two of my businesses, NetResource and Connecticut Judgment Enforcement, were already providing technology consulting and collections, two of the core services.  The idea behind the Dean Group is that since every business is different, you can choose the services you need to help run your business better.  They will all come from one place, and they will cost about what a payroll service costs.

Like you, I've seen everything from the insides of several of the Fortune 20, a major defense contractor and the US Navy to being part of an IPO to running a spinoff of a public company for others.  And as soon as I get back to my own  business and fall off that wheel I wish there was a Dean Group.  So now there is.
